GPS-Maus und Stromversorgung gleichzeitig an Tablet?

Hallo Markus!

Beim Experimentieren mit der Bluetooth-Maus ist mir aufgefallen, daß es zwei Auswahlmöglichkeiten in den Einstellungen von GPS Connector gibt:
Bluetooth Classic und Bluetooth Low Energy. Wobei die Low Energy Verbindung nur in der PRO-Version verfügbar ist.

Wofür braucht man die Low Energy Verbindung bzw. wie erkenne ich, ob meine GPS-Maus diese Verbindungsart auch unterstützt?
Sorry für die vielen dummen Fragen, aber ich kenne mich damit zu wenig aus.

Gerade kam die neue GNSS-Bluetooth-Maus an. Es ist eine "professionelle" Maus von TOPGNSS vom Typ GM906BT.
Die konnte ich sehr günstig im quasi-Neuzustand bei Kleinanzeigen finden. Im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen GPS-Mäusen ist das Ding riesig, aber es liefert sehr schnell sehr genaue Positionen. Also perfekt für meine Zwecke geeignet!

Die Maus hat anscheinend einen kleinen , eingebauten LiIon-Akku, wobei unklar ist, ob der für den normalen Betrieb da ist oder nur, um die TTFF zu reduzieren. Aus dem Datenblatt: "Built-in rechargable lithium battery, reduce the first positioning time (TTFF)."
Ist mir aber auch nicht so wichtig, im Wohnmobil wird die Maus ständig an der Stromversorgung (über USB-Kabel) hängen.

Jetzt sollte alles so funktionieren, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Mein Problem ist also gelöst (wenn auch auf dem teuersten Weg).

Hi Klaus,

Bluetooth LE habe ich aktuell nur für QStarz und RaceBox eingebaut.
Diese beiden Hersteller übertragen die (NMEA) Daten im eigenen Binärformat.
Das ist auch einer der Gründe, warum ich das nur in der PRO Variante anbiete. (ziemlich aufwändig zu dekodieren)

Bluetooth Classic sendet die Daten immer im ASCII NMEA Format - daher biete ich das in der Basic Version an.

Ob jetzt dein Gerät BLE oder nur BT Classic unterstützt musst du bei der Produkt-Spezifikation prüfen.

Genau das ist mein Problem. Dieses Gerät wird wohl nicht mehr hergestellt und ich habe das Internet schon rauf und runter nach Infos dazu durchsucht - leider erfolglos. Bzw. was ich gefunden habe macht eben keine Aussage über die Bluetooth-Spezifikation.

Aber gut, ich habe verstanden, daß ich mit Bluetooth Classic nichts falsch mache!

hello pirxworld. By now you have probably solved your issue using a Bluetooth mouse powered off its own battery and streaming via Bluetooth Classic to GPS Connector. I will return to this in a minute, but first - I am a bit surprised at your result with your Y splitter not working with your original GPS mouse. I have three of these OTG Y splitters that I use simultaneously because I am comparing several GPS mouse at once. I have successfully used these with Pixel 2, Pixel 6 and Samsung Tab Active 2 and achieve charging simultaneous with collecting data with GPS Collector and powering the GPS Mouse. If your splitter doesn’t work on other Android devices with USB C port, then it may be the splitter that is the problem. But absolutely, as you say, maybe the USB port on your Lenovo is old and doesn’t support data and power simultaneously. I see your tablet is a Lenovo - I also have a Lenovo TAB 4 that I would like to use this way but it has a micro USB port, not USB C. I have ordered a USB C to micro USB cable, supposedly rated for power and data that I will use together with one of those USB C OTG Y splitters. I will report on how that works.

I am curious how your L1 L5 TOPGNSS, model GM906BT is working. I see these and non-TOPGNSS labeled with same model number on AliExpress. I found a L1 ublox m10 with Bluetooth mouse on Ali Express that worked for only a couple days before the Bluetooth failed - the device couldn’t be found or it would only log a few seconds before halting. Pretty frustrating but I was still able to use that mouse from its USB connection - it required some playing around - it didn’t work with WCH vendor serial USB (even though it is supposed to have a CH340 chip), it didn’t work with ublox either, but yay, it worked under Prolific. The nice advantage of a Bluetooth connection is that you don’t have to connect a wire to your logger and if the logger is your phone that is awkward to deal with.

Okay pixrworld I am back with my promised report. Yep, there is trouble on the Lenovo USB port, micro USB port in my case on a Lenovo TAB 4 TB8504F. Like on your device, the port can charge or transfer files but not both simultaneously. No setting allows the GPS data on USB to be seen even if connected and not using any Y cables at all, just the series USB A (from GPS mouse), USB A to USB C adapter to USB C / micro USB adapter cable to TAB 4. The Lenovo just reports no USB device connected. GPS Connect sees nothing out there either. Perhaps the port is auto-switching to charge mode because the GPS mouse wants power. A cable connected from my computer to the TAB 4 allows me to see a few files at the root level on the TAB 4 so yes the micro USB does work to transfer data in a limited way. So my TAB 4 is relegated to collecting GPS data with GPS Connector via Bluetooth only.

So this issue might be specific to older Lenovos like we both found. As I indicated in my last post, simultaneous charging and GPS data collection with GPS Connector via an OTG Y connector works for Pixel 2, Pixel 6 and Samsung Tab Active 2.
